Happy New Year to all and on a sad note to start 2025 we would like to inform you that Midland, Texas native and 2004 El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame Inductee Bobby Elliott passed away December 31, 2024.
Hall President, Ruben R. Ramirez said of Bobby Elliott, “He loved teaching, coaching, being an Athletic Trainer and he was a great team player to help everybody.”
Mr. Elliott called El Paso, Texas home since graduating from then Texas Western College in 1962 and immediately started coaching with EPISD. In 1966 Elliott became the Irvin High School Head Athletic Trainer. A thankless job is that of a trainer however Elliott soon made the Head Coaches of the various varsity sports at Irvin very thankful he was “The Man” as the Head Trainer.
However Elliott did something unheard of by today’s standards because while being the Head Trainer at the school, he also served as Assistant Football Coach for five years under Coach J.D. Partridge. Don’t forget he was also at same time a full-time science teacher.
Elliott did this for five years and in 1971 gave up the trainers job to concentrate on being an Assstant Coach in football and in Track and Field. In 1978 he became the Defensive Coordinator at Irvin under first year Head Coach Tony Shaw winning many District Titles.
Elliott became a legend in coaching Track and Field as an Assistant at Irvin and later as Head Coach at Andress High School winning numerous District Titles before retiring from EPISD as an administrator in 1997. Bobby Elliott will be forever missed as a class individual.
